Frequently Asked Questions

Moissanite is a gemstone discovered in a meteor crater by Nobel Prize winner Henri Moissan. He first mistook moissanite (silicon carbide) for diamond (carbon) in 1893 but identified it correctly later on in 1904.

These days, moissanite is used for jewellery making around the world as an alternative to diamonds.

To learn more about moissanite, check out our free Comparing the Carats guide.

There are many reasons for this, including:

  1. Moissanite occurs so rarely naturally, that it is now made in a laboratory setting. So you can be sure that nobody was harmed through earth mining if you choose moissanite.
  2. Due to being lab grown, the quality of stone purchased is likely to be of a much higher grade and be better value for money.
  3. Moissanite has some of the best qualities including more fire, brilliance and lustre than any other gems.

We created a chart for this purpose. It compares our Everspark Moissanite stones to diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds.
